The Oxy 5 Nitro from Oxy Heli is a
ground up design, focuses on leading design cues that correlate to top notch
performance. Designing an electric heli is quite simple in nature - incredible
power and minimal vibration. But a nitro? Designing a nitro is an art. A
delicate balance of weight, mass distribution, CG, reducing vibrations, cooling
efficiency, and aerodynamics all affect the final design of a nitro
model.
Features at a Glance:
- 8.578 Gear ratio - standard
- 7.40 Gear ratio - optional (550-570 class) (OXY5N-OSP-1436)
- Narrow 35mm upper frame
- High performance cooling - Lynx CNC Turbo Fan
- Sprag one way system
- Easy fuel tank access
- Mod 0.8 gear system
- Belt tail rotor system
- Adaptive main rotor dampening
- High efficiency tail rotor system
Frame Design
Featuring a blend of narrow & wide frames, the Oxy 5 nitro offers a balance
of both standard design cues, and feature focused on key components in
important areas. Rigidity, strength, low weight, and aesthetics are aspects of
the Oxy 5 nitro. After countless hours of design revisions and testing, Oxy
Heli landed on the final design that met the critical design goals. Nitro
requires high gear train efficiency, and high cooling capacity to squeak out
every ounce of performance from the nitro engine. Low resistance gears, high
output Lynx CNC Turbo Fan, and a efficient fan shroud to match aid in providing
pilots with the best mechanical design concepts which translate to more
performance. A sprag one way system ensures longevity and reliability,
providing incredible strength for any type of flying style. The bearing block
systems incorporates a sliding adjustment to eliminate main shaft play, which
further reduces weight by eliminating main shaft collars. Lastly Fuel Tank
access is critically important for all nitro pilots, and the Oxy 5 couldn't be
any easier to access.
Geartrain Assembly
Built with an efficient single stage transmission, the Oxy 5 Nitro offers two
gear ratios depending on blade selection for the pilot. Standard kit gearing
offers 19T Pinion and 163 Mod 0.8 gears, which is suited for pilots looking for
600 - 625mm main rotor blades. If you're looking to shrink the model and run
higher headspeeds, an optional 22T Pinion is offered and suggested for
utilization of 550-575mm main rotor blades. Tail rotor drive features a 84T
main pulley and a 19T tail pulley for a final drive ratio of 1:4.42. Depending
on pilot choices you can increase this to 4.66 with a 18T pulley, or decrease
this to 4.2 with a 20T tail pulley.
Rotorhead System
Through years of development across various helicopters, Oxy Heli understood
that a solid rotor head system paired with a 10mm hollow main shaft, 8mm hollow
spindle shaft, serrated center hub, and interchangeable dampening system was
the only solution to pursue. A difficult problem to tackle on all 3D helis is
the deviation error from zero degrees to full negative and positive collective.
Oxy Heli tackled this problem with ease, and the Oxy 5 nitro offers a deviation
of only 0.25 degrees with a 28 degree range of travel. Flybarless gyro
adjustments will be minimal thanks to this excellent mechanical geometry
offered. The rotor head offers pilots agility and precision in one single
design.
Tail Rotor System
Tail performance is the single most important aspect of a pilot looking to
progress and practice new maneuvers. A tail rotor system that doesn't feel
"connected" is a concern for many, as in the event a blowout happens,
a crash is mostly immanent and can happen in seconds. Oxy Heli understands this
importance, and provide one of the highest efficiency tail rotor systems to
date. Larger tail pulleys, low drag coefficients, and a simple design are all
incorporated to the Oxy 5 nitros design. Mechanical concepts such as low belt
wear, tail belt tension system, reduced mechanical travel error, double pinned
pitch slider, and a 6mm tail output shaft are just a breif summary of the magic
found within the Oxys' tail system.
